The most common non-medical causes of insomnia are stress and anxiety, or a state of hyperarousal.

It is bad to develop a "fear of sleeplessness", which intensifies emotional arousal perpetuating insomnia.

Simply put, people who can't sleep are possibly stressed out.

Causes:

1. One cause: never-completed to-do list

* Or just never ending

2. Another cause: sugar intake before bed time or too much sugar during daytime

Solutions:

1. Stay refreshed and recharged the next day to pick up tasks instead of staying up the day before.

2. Another solution: Try herbal (in the category of scent) treatment.

e.g. lavender related, such as lavender tea

3. Make a gratitude list part of our bedtime routine, no matter large and small. Regard things as blessings.

4. Do a short meditation before bedtime.

Notes:

Pranayama is an Indian practice in breath control, a good way to adjust mindset before bedtime.

Pranayama is the formal practice of controlling the breath, which is the source of our prana, or vital life force. Here, read up on pranayama exercises & poses, breathing techniques and sequences.
